Lata Didi, as she was fondly called by all, passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital on February 6 after prolonged spells of illness including Covid-19. That evening she was accorded a public funeral with full state honours in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, various Central and State cabinet ministers, Bollywood celebs and others, besides thousands of her fans and admirers, at Shivaji Park. Bappi Lahiri

Veteran singer-composer Alokesh alias Bappi Lahiri - nephew of the legendary trio of late Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar and Anoop Kumar - passed away around midnight due to multiple health issues on February 16. He suffered from several health complications and died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea).

Pandit Birju Maharaj

The living legend of Kathak, Birju Maharaj, who had been diagnosed with kidney disease and put on dialysis, died at his home on January 17. He was 83. Maharaj ji, as he was popularly known, was said to be playing with his grandsons when his health unexpectedly deteriorated, requiring him to be rushed to the hospital, where he died of a heart attack. Raju Srivastava

On September 21, Raju Srivastava, who had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the national capital, about six weeks ago, passed away aged 58. Srivastava was rushed to hospital on August 10 and put on a ventilator after he complained of chest pain and collapsed in his gym.

Playback singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away on June 1 night. He was 53. KK was in the city to perform at a function in Nazrul Manch organised by the Gurudas College. It was learnt that KK felt sick while he was performing. After returning to his hotel, the singer complained of uneasiness following which he was rushed to a hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. Gangster Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar, the alleged mastermind behind the killing of famed Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has been detained in California, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann confirmed on Friday. Brar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, had moved to the US from Canada, where he was based since 2017.
